Volunteer
The Curtis Island Lighthouse Foundation (CILF) is raising funds to restore the Curtis Island Light Station and needs your help. We're looking for volunteers in various areas, from fundraising to carpentry, historical research, and gardening.
As a volunteer, you'll play a crucial role in the restoration. You'll have the chance to contribute your skills and time in a way that suits you. Whether you're interested in hands-on work on the island or behind-the-scenes tasks on the mainland, there's likely a place for you on our team. If you are not able to volunteer, your donation is equally welcome.
To join us, fill out our volunteer application. It includes a list of potential roles, a legal disclosure for your protection, and a section for you to tell us about yourself. We want to know why you're interested in volunteering, what skills you can bring, and how much time you can commit.
1. Fundraising: This could involve organizing events, seeking donations, or applying for grants to help fund the restoration of the Curtis Island Light Station.
2. Volunteer Coordination: This role would involve managing the volunteer team, scheduling shifts, and ensuring all tasks are covered.
3. Data Entry: This role would involve inputting and managing data related to the restoration project, such as donor information, volunteer hours, and project progress.
4. Transportation Coordination: This role would involve arranging transportation for contractors, visitors, and volunteers to and from Curtis Island.
5. Boat Operation: Volunteers with boating experience could assist in transporting people and supplies to and from the island.
6. Boat Donation: Individuals with boats could volunteer their vessels for use in the project.
7. Historical Research: This role would involve researching the history of the Curtis Island Light Station to ensure the restoration is historically accurate and to provide information for visitors.
8. Trail Maintenance: This role would involve maintaining the trails on Curtis Island, ensuring they are safe and accessible for visitors.
9. Gardening: This role would involve maintaining the flower gardens on the island, providing a beautiful and welcoming environment for visitors.
10. Masonry: Individuals with masonry skills could assist in restoring the brick light tower and the brick oil shed.
11. Carpentry: Individuals with carpentry skills could assist in various aspects of the restoration project.
12. Painting: This role would involve scraping old paint and applying new paint to the structures on the island.
13. Electrical and Plumbing: Individuals with these skills could assist in updating the electrical and plumbing systems on the island.
15. Lighthouse Docent: This role would involve giving tours of the lighthouse and sharing its history with visitors.
15. Lighthouse Historian: This role would involve giving talks about the history of the lighthouse, providing a deeper understanding for visitors.
